We are
sitting in our DTS classroom about to start a teaching session. Our staffs are sharing with us what they felt
God wanted to emphasize for this week when they were praying for us.
Suddenly the atmosphere shifts.
“Receive his love!” one of our leaders urges us, as she starts to cry. “Receive his love!”
A moment that engraved itself into my memory.
Yes, a little bit because of the shock to have one of our base leaders suddenly break out in tears in front of us. But also, because it really struck my heart.

At the end
of my DTS, it still echoes in my mind.
When I look back on these past five months, I see God’s red thread silently and sometimes pretty obviously weaving its way through the fabric of my journey.
It has been the beginning of a journey of learning to live loved. I wish I could tell you how to get there in three steps, but I think I have barely made it out of the first pit stop.
Man, it’s so hard, but it’s worth the struggle!

During this
DTS, I’ve been thinking loads about the big challenge of receiving love:
How does one receive love?
Do you receive it like you would receive a guest?
Set out the nice dishes, make it look neat, create a nice atmosphere and then when the bell rings welcome it in?
Or do you receive it like a monthly pay check?
Do you receive it like a gift you didn’t know was coming and then you just get excited and say “Thank you” when you get it?

I think I’m
starting to realize that receiving love is not so much like any of these
scenarios.
It’s not an occasion. Not a biweekly occurrence. It’s no guest appearance or surprise bonus.

It’s much
more permanent.
Receiving love is a bit like receiving a new family member or a roommate.
You make room for it, you get ready to welcome a new reality. Any old living constellation is now past.
You make space for a new permanent reality.
Not just make everything look nice for a brief visit, but you make space in your life to embrace it.
You give it a room, it gets permanent quarters.
You expect it to show up in all common rooms. Cause it’s going to be there every day when you wake up. When you walk into the kitchen, it’ll be there making breakfast and as you walk into the living room it might sit on the couch and read.

You might
need to clear out the room in order for it to be able to move in, get rid of
those assumptions, fears and lies, who have been squatters in your house for too
long. They ain’t paying rent anyway…
To say that DTS has been a little bit of a spring-cleaning for me in that way would be an underestimation. Lots of deep cleaning, dusting, scrubbing, kicking out old furniture, replacing it with new, much more suitable ones. More like part one of fixer-upper episode.
A lot of times, it still feels foreign to have this new reality walk through the door without knocking.
Sometimes, I’m still a little suspicious. Other times, I manage to just sit with it and take a deep breath. Sometimes, I just sigh and for a brief moment you can spot a slight headshake and a big grin.
It’s not been easy. But it’s been good.

This I am starting to grasp:
I am loved with everlasting love- and it does not change even when I don’t quite get it yet.
But I want to keep choosing to receive this new, yet ancient reality in my heart again and again, until it sinks in.
Receive his love!
“As the man went eastward with a measuring line in his hand, he measured
off a thousand cubits and then led me through water that was
ankle-deep. He measured off
another thousand cubits and led me through water that was knee-deep. He
measured off another thousand and led me through water that was up to the
waist. He measured off another
thousand, but now it was a river that I could not cross, because the water had
risen and was deep enough to swim in.” Ezekiel 47
